A 44-year-old man who had previously been jailed for four years and received one stroke of the cane for robbing an Indonesian maid in 2013 was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Wednesday by a Session Court in Alor Setar, capital of Malaysia’s Kedah state, after causing the death of a 71-year-old woman while breaking into her home in February this year.
Md Nurul Azman Salilholdin @ Salilhaldin pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by negligence on February 25 at the woman’s house in Alor Setar, Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.
The former guitarist of Ekamatra, which was a popular rock group in the 1990s, was found to be a repeat offender who had robbed an Indonesian maid on January 29, 2013. This time he allegedly broke into the woman’s house in an attempted burglary.
In mitigation, the defendant asked to be jailed from the date of his arrest and to be sent to Kajang Prison in Selangor state to facilitate family visits.
The daughter of the victim was reportedly unsatisfied with the sentence and decided to file an appeal for stronger punishment.
