Man jailed for assaulting woman, stealing her lingerie
The defendant was arrested by Hong Kong police after they examined surveillance camera footage
A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 28 months in jail at the District Court on Thursday for assaulting a woman and robbing her of her lingerie.
The defendant Lau Long-yin pleaded guilty to one count of robbery for an offense committed in December last year in Kowloon, Hong Kong, Oriental Daily reported.
The court heard that the defendant was drunk when he approached a 38-year-old woman at 2am and tried to rob her from behind.
The defendant accosted the woman and demanded she hand over her purse, only to find that she was not carrying one.
The defendant then pushed the woman to the ground, struck her on the head and made her hand over her underpants and bra before running away. The woman suffered head injuries.
The defendant was arrested by police after they examined surveillance camera footage.
The defense lawyer pleaded for leniency on Thursday, saying the defendant, whose father is a police officer, was in a bad mood at the time of the crime because he was fired two weeks before the robbery and he was drunk.
Judge Stanley Chan noted that the defendant had three convictions for indecent assault between 2008 and 2009, for which he was sent to a correctional center. However, it seemed he had not learned his lesson, and as he was a repeat offender, a harder punishment was called for. He sentenced Lau to 28 months’ imprisonment.
