Man who secretly filmed maid in shower gets 4 months jail
The principal magistrate said the man was an employer who had committed a breach of trust and what he did was a crime that went on for a long time
A 61-year-old local man who set up a hidden camera and filmed his domestic worker showering for three months was sentenced to four months in jail on Thursday.
Defendant Sin Man-yau pleaded for leniency after being charged with one count of access to a computer with dishonest intent at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court.
But principal magistrate Bina Chainrai said the man was an employer who had committed a breach of trust and what he did was a crime that went on for three months, a long period of time, news website hk01.com reported.
Earlier, the court heard that on February 24 last year the maid found a hidden camera set up behind some detergent bottles in the bathroom when she went to take a shower.
When she checked the camera, she discovered that she was being filmed while bathing and the filming had been going on from December 1, 2016 to February 24, 2017.
The domestic worker reported the incident to police the next day.
The man told the court that he had compensated the domestic worker and terminated her employment contract. He also said he was ashamed of what he had done.
