Manila wooing workers home to help build infrastructure
The Philippine government’s infrastructure program aims to build highways, bridges and railways, as well as creating job opportunities for Filipinos
The Philippine government wants skilled workers who are currently working abroad to return home and help in its infrastructure program.
Carlos G Dominguez III, finance secretary and head of the Rodrigo Duterte administration’s economic team, said the government needed more construction workers for its “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
“I was told that getting skilled workers such as technicians and welders is getting a little bit tough,” Dominguez said.
He said that in order to lure workers back to the Philippines, the construction industry should pay higher salaries.
“Local companies have to understand that skilled workers are acceptable anywhere in the world, and if you want to get skilled workers you have to compete,” he said.
