Maruti Suzuki dominates India’s February auto sales
Its Maruti Dzire compact sedan retained the top spot for the third consecutive month with sales of 20,941 units
India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki, a unit of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, continued to dominate auto sales in February, with four of its models taking the top four slots.
Its Maruti Dzire compact sedan retained the top spot in sales for the third consecutive month in February with 20,941 units, up 26% from the same month last year (16,613 units), reports Moneycontrol.com.
The company’s Alto small car came in as the second-best-selling model at 19,760 units, but with paltry year-on-year growth of just 1%.
Maruti’s onetime best-seller Swift, which underwent a makeover recently, took the third spot with sales of 17,291 units.
Its premium Baleno hatchback doubled its sales volume to 15,807 units in February compared with a year earlier. Despite being on sale for nearly three years, the model continues to enjoy a waiting period.
India’s second-largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (a unit of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Company) had three of its models – Creta, Elite i20 and Grand i10 – figuring among the top 10 models.
However, with compared with the Elite i20, which recorded year-on-year growth of 28%, the other two models fared poorly, with Creta volumes growing by just 3% and the Grand i10 falling by 21%.
Sport-utility-vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra broke into the top 10 after a hiatus of more than a year. Volumes of the Bolero, M&M’s best-selling model, surged 24% to clinch the 10th spot in the list. M&M had cut the Bolero’s length to less than 4 meters and lowered the price.
