May reaches deal with N Ireland’s DUP to resolve hung parliament
UK to provide extra one billion pounds to N Ireland
Two weeks after a snap election resulted in a hung parliament, throwing an English Channel-sized monkey wrench in Prime Minister Theresa May’s plans for Brexit legislation, her party has reached a deal to avert crisis.
The agreement will see the UK provide one billion euros to Northern Ireland over two years in exchange for the region’s Democratic Unionist Party’s votes alongside May’s government in Parliament, reports BBC.
“We very much want to see that protected and enhanced and we also share the desire to ensure a strong government, able to put through its programme and provide for issues like the Brexit negotiations, but also national security issues,” May said.
