Migrant worker dances with debutante daughter in airport
A Filipino worker from Kuwait became emotional when he saw his 18-year-old daughter wearing the gown she wore at her coming-of-age party
A Filipino migrant worker, who missed his daughter’s debut because of a delayed flight, danced with his daughter after arriving in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.
Noel Limon, who worked in Kuwait for almost 20 years, had been booked to return to the Philippines on Aug. 18 for his daughter’s 18th birthday. However, he was not able to make it due to a mishap with Xiamen Airlines that closed the main runway at NAIA, GMA News reported.
In the Philippines, a young woman has a debut, which is a traditional Filipino coming-of-age celebration, when she turns 18. A debut concludes with a traditional father and daughter dance.
When Limon did finally fly to Manila, his daughter Lindsay surprised him by arriving at the airport wearing the gown she wore at her debut. Lindsay said she wanted to dance with her father to complete her “dream debut.”
A video of their dance, which was uploaded by Lindsay to Facebook, went viral. In the video, Limon became emotional when he saw his daughter. The father and daughter hugged and danced in the middle of the airport.
Lindsay’s mother, Christine, said her daughter wanted to wear her gown for her father to see when they went to pick him up at the airport. Lindsay said she did not expect the video to go viral as it was only a post meant for her father.
