Mobile app to connect Filipino migrant workers to embassies
The developers say the application aims to reduce the number of abuses suffered by Filipinos working overseas
A mobile application is being developed that aims to provide Filipino migrant workers abroad an emergency line to Philippine embassies, consulates and other government agencies.
Perlas App, which is being developed by independent software company EICA Atelier, will allow Filipino migrant workers to report any complaints or emergencies immediately to the nearest Philippine embassy or consulate, GMA News reported.
The app also lets migrant workers seek for help in case of emergencies, such as if they are being threatened or abused by their employer or if they are in need of medical attention.
“Although the application is instantaneously processed to the embassy, it will be on the Philippine embassies’ part on how fast they can send help,” EICA said.
The developers said the application aimed to reduce the number of abuses suffered by Filipinos working overseas as they will be able to seek help from government agencies.
“Right now, the chance of a Filipino migrant worker [surviving] an attack is close to none. With the app, it greatly [increases] to 50%,” EICA said.
