Mother arrested for leaving daughter, 3, alone at home
The girl called her school and said “I’m alone at home [and] I’m scared”; her mother was later arrested for biting police who came to free the girl
Police arrested a 40-year-old mother who left her daughter, aged 3, alone at home in Kowloon and assaulted two police during their investigation on Wednesday.
The woman surnamed Siu, lived alone with her daughter in a flat at Peony House in So Uk Estate – public housing – in Cheung Sha Wan, Sing Tao Daily reported. Her husband left the family in September last year.
It was understood that the girl did not go to school on Wednesday and the school was not informed. A kindergarten teacher called Siu’s home at 9am but no one answered.
Two hours later the girl called the school back, telling the teacher that her mother left the mobile at home and “I’m alone at home, I’m scared,” Apple Daily reported.
The kindergarten immediately called the estate management office and asked the security guard to check the girl’s safety – and learnt that the youngster was indeed alone at home. So they reported the case to police.
Police and firemen arrived at the flat and were planning to prise open the door when Siu returned. But the mother suddenly turned emotional and bit two officers on their hands.
Officers later subdued Siu and arrested her for alleged child abuse and assaulting police.
No injury was found on the girl, who was sent to hospital for a checkup accompanied by a social worker.
