New call center to streamline engagement with the police
Members of the public will be able to dial 100 to make an appointment
Calling the police is about to get easier.
A new city control room is set to undergo a trial run ahead of its formal launch in early June. The department is expected to spend about Rs30 crore (US$465,000) for the 24-7 center.
Bangalore residents will soon be able to dial 100 to arrange an appointment with the police. The verification and filing of non-emergency police complaints will be handled by 270 call officers from private agencies.
Bangalore City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood was quoted as saying: “In the first phase, we are concentrating on our emergency response and in the second phase, we will extend Dial 100 as a single line for the public to interact with the department. Apart from emergency response, we will also have services like fixing appointments at the local police station for verification and other formalities.”
