Nine people arrested in gambling den in Wan Chai
The illegal gaming room had installed soundproofing and only served known customers.
Police arrested nine people on Sunday on suspicion of operating an illegal gambling den for Texas Hold ‘Em card games in a commercial building in Wan Chai in Hong Kong Island.
At 11 p.m., police raided an apartment at Harvard Commercial Building on 105 Thomson Road and arrested two Hong Kong men surnamed Yu and Chan, both aged 21. They are allegedly the operators of the den, Apple Daily reported.
Seven men, aged between 25 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling. Police found a gaming table, HK$61,000 (US$7,828) in cash, 23 sets of playing cards and chips.
Officers said the operators had installed soundproofing in the apartment and only allowed in known customers, Sing Pao reported.
In Hong Kong, gambling is only allowed at licensed mahjong centers and The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
