Pakistan and Turkey nearing agreement on FTA, official touts One Belt, One Road

Andalou Agency reported Tuesday that Pakistan and Turkey are nearing a trade agreement, as officials from the two countries met on the sidelines at a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Islamabad. Adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, also commented on the importance of China’s One Belt, One Road initiative to the organization’s efforts to improve connectivity in the region. The highlighting of Xi Jinping’s project underscores China’s growing role in global affairs at a time when the US is speaking of reducing its role overseas.
