Pentagon seeks White House approval to arm Ukraine
Move will provide antitank missiles and other weapons to deter Russian aggression
The US Pentagon and State Department have drafted plans to provide military aid to Ukraine to counter Russia, reports the Wall Street Journal. The US claims that Russia has provided weapons including tanks and military advisors to rebels fighting the government in Kiev.
Since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, Washington has largely limited military support to so-called non-lethal aid and training, according to the report.
President Trump has not been briefed on the proposal and it was not discussed at a high-level White House meeting on Russia policy last week.
