Philippine govt offers shelter to Filipino workers from UAE
Filipino workers who availed themselves of an amnesty in the UAE can seek temporary shelter with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
The Philippine government is offering a temporary shelter to overseas Filipino workers who are arriving from the United Arab Emirates after availing themselves of an amnesty on overstaying.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said that Filipino workers arriving in Manila who missed their connections to Visayas and Mindanao can stay in a shelter located at the OWWA office in Pasay City, The Filipino Times reported.
According to the OWWA, some Filipinos missed their connecting flights due to a delay in the arrival of their flight from the UAE to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Filipinos who live in Luzon can also go to the shelter if they do not have a family member to accompany them to their home provinces. Some Filipino workers were brought to the shelter via a shuttle bus organized by the OWWA.
An official from the OWWA said workers from Visayas and Mindanao are given a transportation allowance that includes a connecting flight to the nearest airport in their province. Those living in Luzon were also given funds to help with transportation to their homes.
