Police arrest 46 people during raid on Mong Kok drug den
Officers found 13 grams of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of HK$10,000 (US$1,277); den believed to be controlled by a triad group
A total of 38 men and 8 women, aged between 24 and 82, were arrested by police in a drug den in Mong Kok in Kowloon on Tuesday afternoon.
At 3pm, a 65-year-old local man was arrested in an apartment on 323 Reclamation Street for allegedly operating a drug den and selling illicit substances, Sing Tao Daily reported.
Mong Kok police took the rest of the suspects, including 13 South Asian people, into custody for suspected drug possession and smoking or inhaling drugs, Oriental Daily reported. Five of the arrested South Asians were asylum seekers.
Officers found 13 grams of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of HK$10,000 (US$1,277), some tools suspected to be used to smoke the drug and a small amount of cash.
Police believed the drug den – about 600-square-feet in size with two rooms and two toilets – was controlled by a triad group and could bring in revenue of about HK$30,000 a day.
