Police dive in to rescue woman who jumped into sea
Two off-duty police who were jogging around Central learnt about the incident and dived into the sea to rescue the woman, who was taken to hospital
A 31-year-old British woman who suddenly jumped into the sea off Hong Kong Island on Thursday was rescued by five police officers.
The woman and her mother were at the Star Ferry Pier in Central at 4.45pm when she suddenly became emotional and jumped into the sea, Metro Daily reported.
Two off-duty police who were jogging around the area learnt about the incident and jumped into the sea to rescue the woman.
Authorities received a report and sent a team from the police emergency unit to the scene.
An officer also jumped into the sea to help his colleagues while other two officers helped pull the woman out of the water, Apple Daily reported.
The woman remained conscious when she was rescued and was sent to Queen Mary Hospital for further treatment.
After an initial investigation, police did not suspect foul play. It was understood that the woman was troubled about a relationship recently.
