Police hunt trio after case with HK$1.4m in cash snatched
A laptop case with HK$1.4 million in cash was grabbed by three men of South Asian ethnicity who police say were wearing face masks at the time
Police are hunting for three men who robbed a local man of HK$1.4 million – about US$179,000 – in cash on a street in North Point on Hong Kong Island on Thursday.
Police received a report at 10pm about a 34-year-old man surnamed Lee who was robbed by three men of South Asian ethnicity at Hang Seng North Point building on 335 King’s Road in North Point, Apple Daily reported.
A laptop case with HK$1.4 million in cash and a mobile phone worth around HK$1,000 was grabbed by the three men before they ran away towards Java Road.
The victim chased after the three men and yelled for help on the street but the three men vanished. Some passersby called the police.
It was understood that the man was on his way to settle a bitcoin transaction, Sing Pao reported.
Police officers from the Eastern District are following up the case.
They are hunting for three men with 1.7 meters to 1.8 meters tall, who wore dark-colored tops and face masks during the robbery.
