Pregnant woman and unborn child killed by her sister-in-law
The killer, a 30-year-old Filipino-American, said she acted in self-defense
A Filipino-American woman has been found guilty of murdering her pregnant sister-in-law after they got into an argument at an apartment in Las Vegas, in the US state of Nevada, in 2013.
Elinor Indico, 30, claimed she was defending herself when she stabbed Ashley Indico, also killing her unborn child. Two young children were in the home at the time, but they were unharmed.
Police said Ashley had been living in the apartment for two months and the argument erupted when Elinor ordered her to leave, CBS News reported. Ashley’s husband told police his sister had a history of violence and drug use.
On May 11, Elinor was convicted of open murder with a deadly weapon, a broad category under which the judge or jury decides the level of the offense. She was also found guilty of the manslaughter of an unborn child, child abuse and child neglect and could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
