Property dealer convicted of strangling wife with shoelace
Judge delivers verdict after damning testimony from killer's children
A Delhi man has been convicted of strangling his wife with a shoelace, according to media reports.
Suspecting his wife of infidelity, Bhupender, a property dealer, murdered her at their rented house in Swaroop Nagar, North Delhi, when his children were out.
The Delhi court reached its verdict after hearing testimony from two of the accused’s four children.
The Hindustan Times reported that the children told the court that their father dropped them at a Republic Day celebrations venue on January 26, 2015, and told them he was going home to fetch their mother, but never returned. When the children returned home, they found their mother dead and their father missing.
PTI quoted Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Bansal as saying, “Both the [children] are consistent on this point and their testimony has gone unchallenged and uncontroverted… They are the real son and daughter of the accused and the deceased and they have no reason to depose falsely against their own father and in my opinion so far as motive is concerned, that stands established.”
Bhupender will be sentenced at a later date.
