Republicans finally pivoting to tax reform?
White House, congressional leaders set to release joint tax-reform principles this week
The Hill reports that Republican lawmakers and the Trump administration are preparing to release joint tax-reform principles as early as this week, citing lobbyists. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan also said earlier this week that the unified tax-reform framework would be revealed this week.
As healthcare reform, which was initially seen as a first step in Republican efforts to roll back taxes, has stalled, many have hoped that the White House would shelve healthcare efforts for the time being in favor of moving to tax legislation. Now that Trump has doubled down on getting some sort of healthcare legislation passed before lawmakers leave for their August recess, the release of tax-reform principles could serve as a way to pivot to talking tax reform over the recess.
