Samsung announces new manufacturing plant in US
Facility to grow 954 jobs, goodwill with Trump
As South Korea’s president visits Washington this week, Samsung has finally announced the details of a new manufacturing plant in the US. The new facility has been in the works since at least early March, when it was reported that they would move appliance manufacturing from Mexico to the US.
Samsung explains the benefits, no doubt in a message to Trump:
The plant will generate 954 direct jobs, including advanced manufacturing positions for craftsmen, operators, engineers and employees in other technical and non-technical roles. Similar to our semiconductor facility in Austin, Texas we plan to hire locally and invest in the community in a variety of ways. This includes a focus on using local vendors when possible, which we expect will support indirect jobs beyond those being directly created in our facility.
