Samsung set to dethrone Intel as world’s largest chipmaker
Industry analyst predicts current trends will see Samsung take the no 1 spot this quarter
Since 1993, Intel has been the world’s top manufacturer of semiconductors, but that may be about to change, reports the Korea Herald.
Estimates from US market research firm IC Insights shows that Samsung may become the largest chipmaker by as soon as the second quarter of this year.
“If memory market prices continue to hold or increase through the second quarter and the balance of this year, Samsung could charge into the top spot and displace Intel,” IC Insights President Bill McClean said on Monday.
