Singapore maid unemployed for months based on false complaint
A non-government organization appealed to Singapore's Ministry of Manpower on behalf of the domestic worker.
A domestic worker in Singapore was unable to find work for several months after a former employer filed a false complaint about her to the Ministry of Manpower.
The worker alleged she had left the job with her former employer because of physical and verbal abuse. The employer then filed a complaint with the authority, saying she was mentally unstable and unable to do her work properly, The Straits Times reported.
The maid discovered the complaint when applying for other jobs and sought help from the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics, a non-government organization, which appealed to the Ministry of Manpower on her behalf.
It took seven months to have the complaint removed from the authority’s system, after which she was hired within three weeks.
