Six boars saved after falling into a well in India
A lack of barriers or safety measures around the well probably caused the pigs to fall in, say villagers
Forest officers in India rescued six boars from an abandoned well last Friday. Residents of Khaliapali village in Sonepur called the Forest Department early in the morning when they saw the boars trapped inside a well, Kalinga TV reported.
There was water in the well, but not enough to drown the animals. Villagers assisted the forest officers and rescued the boars using sticks.
According to locals, the boars were part of a pack that came from the nearby Murgabari forest, the Orissa Post reported. They went to the village to feed on the locals’ crops.
Residents say the lack of boundaries and safeguards around the well could have caused the accident. The boars were ultimately released in a forest nearby.
