Sports: Olympic speedskater Oh Se-jong dies at 33
A sad week for South Korea! Oh Se-jong, the speedskater who helped his country win the gold medal in the 5,000-meter relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, died in a motorcycle crash in Seoul on Monday. He was 33.
According to Yonhap, his motorcycle hit a vehicle making a U-turn. But the skating union could not confirm the circumstances of the crash.
Oh was a short-track skater, the speedskating equivalent of a sprinter. He was a member of a powerful South Korean team that included stars such as Ahn Hyun-soo (who has since skated for Russia as Viktor Ahn) and that took on champions including the American Apolo Anton Ohno, the New York Times reported. He also won the 5,000-meter relay world title at the world short-track speed skating championships in 2003. There was no information on his survivors.
