Supreme Court reject’s 10-year-old’s abortion request
Chandigarh girl was allegedly raped by her uncle over seven months
India’s Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking the termination of a 10-year-old rape victim’s pregnancy on Friday, according to media reports.
Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud dismissed the plea after examining her medical records, citing a report stating that it would be medically inadvisable to terminate her 32-week pregnancy, PTI reported.
PTI reported that the girl, who lives in Chandigarh, was repeatedly raped by her uncle over seven months. Her parents became aware of it when the girl complained of stomach pains and they took her to a doctor.
Her parents then approached the Chandigarh district court for permission to terminate when she had been pregnant for 26 weeks.
