Teen suicide linked to banned Blue Whale online game
It is believed to be the first time it has claimed a life in Uttar Pradesh
A teen suicide in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday is believed to be the first in the Indian state linked to the deadly online game Blue Whale, according to media reports.
Blue Whale is a 50-day challenge that is believed to have originated in Russia. A series of tasks are assigned to players by the game administrators, each one potentially fatal, with the final challenge requiring the player to commit suicide.
The Indian government issued a directive on August 11 to all internet platforms, including Google India, Facebook, WhatsApp, Yahoo India, Instagram and Microsoft India, asking them to take measures against it.
