Ten arrested after raid on Wan Chai gambling den
A Filipina woman, a man with Canadian nationality, and seven locals were arrested for gambling in the establishment
On Saturday, police arrested ten people in a raid on an illegal gambling den set up in an apartment in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island.
After the raid in Tin Tok Lane, a 35-year-old local woman was arrested for allegedly operating the gambling den and accepting bets illegally, Oriental Daily reported.
Police officers found an account ledger which logged HK$45,000 (US$5,733) in wagers.
Nine people aged between 23 and 48, including a Filipina woman, a man with Canadian nationality, six local men and one local woman were arrested for gambling.
One of the arrested, a 23-year-old local man was also arrested for alleged possession of another person’s identity card.
The police confiscated two electronic fishing machines and an electronic shooting machine, adding that an initial investigation showed that some of the arrested people have triad backgrounds.
The gambling den had reportedly been in operation for two months.
