Thailand set to approve China submarine deal
The purchase has been in the works since last year
On Tuesday Thai Junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha committed to approving the purchases of two Chinese submarines when the matter reaches the cabinet. No specific date to finalize the purchase has been set. The Bangkok Post reports that public concern about the transparency of the deal has led to calls for an audit, with some concerned about the need for the vessels, other costs that will be associated, as well as whether the Chinese technology is up to par.
