Thief grabs Indonesian lady’s handbag at Shun Tak Center
The woman, 30, hung her handbag on a door while using the washroom but a man suddenly grabbed it and ran; she lost cash and a phone worth HK$14,000
A 30-year-old Indonesian woman lost cash and a mobile phone worth about HK$14,000 (US$1,792) in a washroom at Shun Tak Centre in Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island on Tuesday night.
The woman went to a washroom on the second floor of Shun Tak Center in Connaught Road Central at 9pm, while a male friend waited outside, Apple Daily reported.
She hung her handbag on the door while using the washroom. Suddenly, a thief grabbed the handbag from the top of the door.
She immediately chased the thief out of the toilet but the suspect had vanished. Her friend called the police.
The woman told the police that her handbag contained HK$4,000 and US$800 in cash, plus a mobile phone worth about HK$4,000.
No suspect has been arrested.
Police categorized the case as theft. They are hunting a man about 1.7 meters tall, wearing a dark-colored shirt and green cap, Oriental Daily reported.
