Travel: After Koh Tachai, Thailand bans tourist activities in three other islands
A week ago, Thailand closed its Koh Tachai island to save its pristine beaches and coral reefs from negative impact of tourism.
On Wednesday, Thailand’s marine officials have banned tourist activities at coral reefs near three other islands off Phuket’s east coast to prevent further damage.
The closure is for an indefinite period. The officials have ordered the removal of facilities and structures used for tourist activities from Koh Khai Nok, Koh Khai Nui and Koh Khai Nai, the Phuket News reported.
According to a recent report by the Phuket Marine Biology Centre, at least 60 speedboats per day, as well as increasing numbers of restaurants and shops, were diminishing the existing natural resources in the coastal areas around the three islands.
Officials are removing all beach umbrellas and beach chairs in the area. Shops and restaurants on these islands will be vacated.
