Two Indian men catch iPhone thief in Hung Hom
Pair chase and tackle 30-year-old suspect after they heard victim's cries for help in carpark
Two good samaritans stopped a thief in a hotel carpark in Hung Hom after he snatched a HK$5,500 (US$707) iPhone 7 from a parking attendant on Wednesday.
Two Indian men in a car nearby heard the 21-year-old Hong Kong woman, surnamed Lee, scream for help after the mainland Chinese suspect repeatedly hit her in the head with his bag at 2.21pm in the Harbour Plaza Metropolis parking lot, Apple Daily reported.
They chased the 30-year-old suspect surnamed Li who had jumped out of the shadows when Lee was talking on her phone as she walked toward the carpark of Phase One of the Metropolis shopping mall, the daily said.
The pair tackled the thief near the Metropolis Residence estate and then called the police.
Li was arrested for suspected robbery. Preliminary investigation showed that he had just arrived in the city on a two-way travel permit, Metro Daily reported.
The woman sustained minor injuries in her arms and legs, while the suspect also complained of back pain. Both were treated at hospital.
