US reportedly set to confront China on cars

Axios broke the news on Sunday

March 20, 2017 8:27 PM (UTC+8)

Axios, the publication which first broke the plans for an upcoming Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping meeting, has reported that senior US officials are planning to confront China on cars. Import tariffs of 25% mean that 96% of cars sold in China are currently manufactured there. Forcing this issue would be the first salvo in a widely anticipated Trump era trade conflict with China. Axios reports Trump and the hawkish trio of Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller and Peter Navarro are pushing hard for the move, which might be saved for the potential upcoming meeting between Trump and Xi.
