US tax bill gets huge boost as McCain says yes
Senate bill now extremely likely to pass by Friday
The man who single-handedly tanked Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare, Arizona Senator John McCain, has finally broken his silence on his party’s tax bill.
“After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to support the Senate tax reform bill,” McCain said in a statement released on his webpage on Thursday. “I believe this legislation, though far from perfect, would enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families.”
Republican Senate leaders can now breathe a sigh of relief as the biggest question mark on their whip list can now be recorded as a “yes.”
Others with reservations about the bill still remain, but with McCain’s vote to count on, it seems unlikely that three Republican Senators would defect.
