Video shows trapped king cobra trying to eat rat snake
The cobra had swallowed half the rat snake when volunteers managed to rescue both reptiles from a fishing net and free them
A dramatic video from India showing a king cobra trying to swallow a rat snake while stuck in a fishing net has gone viral.
The cobra, which was about 11-foot long, was eating the 5-feet, 7 inch rat snake trapped in a fishing net next to a fish pond in Odisha, India, The Times of India reported. What seemed to be an easy meal for the cobra soon became complicated as the cobra was tangled in the net as well.
A snake helpline sent a volunteer to the scene, who managed to remove the net, as well as the rat snake, which was halfway inside the cobra’s belly. The rescued king cobra was released back into the countryside.
The king cobra is one of the most venomous snakes on the planet. The toxins from its venom target victims’ central nervous systems and are usually fatal.
Rat snakes, on the other hand, are non-venomous and feed on rats and mice, playing a big role in keeping down the rodent population.
