Vikas Barala admits to police that he followed woman
Haryana BJP chief's son has been charged with attempted kidnapping
Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, reportedly confessed to police during interrogation that he followed Varnika Kundu’s car on Friday night. Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar, who also faces charges, will appear before a local Chandigarh court on Thursday, according to media reports.
On Wednesday, Barala and Kumar were arrested a second time on charges of trying to kidnap Varnika Kundu, daughter of senior Indian Administrative Service officer V S Kundu, on August 4 in Chandigarh. The two were earlier arrested on Saturday following a complaint from the woman, but they were released on bail as they had been booked under bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
The police said they have CCTV footage of them committing illegal acts and witnesses prepared to testify against them. They were interrogated for nearly three hours before non-bailable charges under Section 365 and 511 of the IPC were laid against them.
On Tuesday, Subhash Barala told the media that Varnika Kundu was like a daughter to him and that his son would be held accountable for his alleged actions.
