Vocational student jumps to death before new school year
Young man, 19, found at estate, where he lived in Lam Tin in Kowloon on Thursday morning; MP urges parents to talk to children if they're anxious
A 19-year-old man who had been studying at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education jumped to his death at Lam Tin in Kowloon on Thursday morning.
A security guard found the man at around 6am, lying in an open area of Tak Yan House in Tak Tin Estate – unconscious and with severe injuries, Wen Wei Po reported.
Paramedics arrived and sent him to the United Christian Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 6:21am.
Police found a suicide note and believe that the young man, surnamed Lam, jumped from his flat in the same building.
The Institute said it would offer any assistance necessary for Lam’s family and arrange counseling for his classmates.
Legislator Ip Kin-yuen, who represents the education constituency, urged parents to talk to their children or seek counseling if they find them depressed or anxious about the new school year, Oriental Daily reported.
