YC Modi is new NIA chief
Senior police officer was involved in the 2002 Gujarat riot investigations
Y C Modi, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was appointed as the new director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday, ANI reported.
Modi was part of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team that probed the 2002 Gujarat riot cases. The Ministry for Home Affairs issued the order, according to which Modi will hold the post until his superannuation on May 31, 2021.
He investigated the three most important cases involving the post-Godhra riots: Gulberg Society, Naroda Patiya and Naroda Gam.
An IPS officer of the 1984 batch, Modi will be replacing Sharad Kumar, who is set to retire on October 30.
