Shanghai GM No 1 for sedan sales

BEIJING - Shanghai-GM has ranked first among China's top 10 sedan sellers by selling 203,900 sedans in the first three quarters of this year, according to the China Association of Automotive Industry (CAAI).

In terms of sales in the first three quarters, the new ranking of China's top 10 sedan sellers is Shanghai-GM (203,900 units), Beijing-Hyundai (166,800 units), Shanghai Volkswagen (161,700 units), Guangzhou-Honda (153,000 units), FAW-Volkswagen



(150,900 units), FAW-Charade (141,300 units), Chery (128,600 units), Dongfeng Nissan (111,700 units), Dongfeng-Citron (105,700 units), and FAW-Toyota (86,500 units).

Except Shanghai-Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, which reported an obvious decrease in sales as compared with the year-earlier period, other sedan makers maintained a steady growth of sales in the period. Sales of the top 10 amounted to 1.411 million units, accounting for 72.97% of total sedan sales in China.

With regard to sales in September, the top five sellers were Shanghai-Volkswagen, Shanghai-GM, FAW-Volkswagen, Guangzhou-Honda and Beijing-Hyundai, with sales reaching 29,700 units, 28,700 units, 23,400 units, 19,900 units and 19,300 units respectively, up 33.81%, 26.07%, 21.33%, 16.82% and 6.74% over the previous month. Sales of the five enterprises added up to 121,000 units in September, making up 47.54% of the nation's total sedan sales.

According to statistics of CAAI, China's top 10 sedan brands in terms of sales in January-September were the Charade (133,800 units), Elantra (131,200 units), Excelle (105,000 units), Santana (100,300 units), Jetta (92,500 units), Accord (89,000 units), Cherry QQ (82,000 units), Fit (64,900 units), Cheolima (49,400 units) and Buick Regal (46,900 units).
