BEIJING - US medical giant Johnson &
Johnson (J&J) opened its second nonprofit
medical science center in China here recently.
The center, with an investment of 200
million yuan (approximately US$24.4 million), will
for the first time introduce J&J's medical
management training courses to Chinese hospitals
and medical institutes. The management training
courses offer instruction in
nursing operations, inventory
management and hospital management, which can help
hospitals reduce their management costs. Surgeons
who take the center's courses will receive
continued education credit upon passing exams.
According to Michelle Liu, managing
director of J&J Medical China, the company's
first medical science center in China, established
in Shanghai in 2001, has so
far provided medical training for more than 15,000
doctors and nurses. People in remote and rural
areas haven't received enough medical care in
spite of growth of the Chinese economy and the
need of medical care, said Liu, adding that
J&J is committed to increase the training for
doctors and nurses in grass roots.
The
center in Beijing will also house J&J's
research and development department in China.
Advanced technologies and products produced there
could be applied in the production of medical
equipment in China, which could reduce Chinese
patients' therapy cost, said Liu.
