GM Daewoo-Chery copyright suit settled

SEOUL - GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co, South Korea's third-largest automaker, said November 18 it had withdrawn a lawsuit against a Chinese carmaker on charges of copyright violation.

In December, GM Daewoo filed a suit against Chery Automobile Co, claiming that the Chinese company illegally copied key parts of the GM Daewoo minicar Matiz for its own minicar, the QQ.

"After mutually amicable consultations, we arrived at a compromise resolving all disputes, and we can't disclose [the agreement] as we agreed not to make it public," an official at GM Daewoo said.

GM Daewoo has so far sold about 1.4 million Matizs overseas. GM Daewoo Auto & Technology is a South Korean unit of General Motors Corporation, while Chery is privately owned by the government of Wuhu City in eastern China's Anhui province.
