Ford's sales on upward trend

BEIJING - US automaker Ford announced recently that its sales hit 82,225 units in China in 2005, an increase of 46% over 2004. The good China results were welcome news for the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker, which is expected to go through a wrenching restructuring program the next few years to make its North American units profitable.

The company expects Ford sales to continue to grow in 2006. Senior officials from Ford said the sales of products under the



Ford flag actually realized 220,000 units in 2005, including Ford's own brands, Mazda and other affiliated brands.

"Our achievement in China can be mainly attributed to our new [models], powerful distribution system and strong financial support," said the officials. Statistics show that Ford has invested as much as US$1 billion and opened 150 dealers in China.

Changan Ford sold 61,013 units in 2005, hitting a record high and up 41% year-on-year. As for commercial cars, Jiangling Motor sold 18,000 units of Ford Transit series, an increase of 48% over a year ago.
