Beijing-Hyundai to export 50,000 engines

BEIJING - The Beijing Hyundai Automobile Co., Ltd. will export more than 50,000 sedan engines this year, according to a company source.

Recent statistics provided by the Beijing Customs bureau show that the Sino-ROK joint venture had exported 10,890 sedan engines to Russia by March 17. In 2006, Beijing-Hyundai will

export an additional 46,020 engines to Russia, 5,000 engines to India and 24,000 sets of crankshafts to Turkey, said the company.

The bulk export of engines by Beijing Hyundai, which exported the first engine to Russia on November 14, 2005, indicates that the joint venture's manufacturing capacity and product quality has reached advanced world levels, said Li Jikai, vice general manager of Beijing-Hyundai.

Lured by the fine investment environment and convenient clearance in Beijing, Hyundai has shifted part of its high-end product production from Korea to Beijing. Beijing-Hyundai will not only export engines, but also other auto parts and components in bulk directly to Hyundai's overseas plants.
