China to buy 80 Boeing 737s

WASHINGTON - The China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Group has signed a framework agreement with Boeing for the purchase of 80 Boeing 737 planes, valued at US$4.6 billion.

When US President George Bush visited China in November 2005, the China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Group signed a framework agreement with Boeing for buying 70 Boeing

737-700 and 737-800 planes, with a catalog price of $4 billion. Together, the two agreements mean China will buy a total of 150 Boeing planes.

Orders for 50 of the 70 planes in the first batch were signed on December 2005, and those for the remaining 20 planes were signed on January 2006. According to Boeing, Boeing 737s account for a considerable proportion of China's fleet. China's fleet has a total of 542 Boeing aircraft, of which 366 are 737s.
