Annual toy exports top US$15.18 bn

BEIJING - China's toy export volume hits US$15.18 billion each year, according to associate professor Yang Feng of the Nanjing Special Education and Vocational Institute in east China's Jiangsu province.

Yang said that China's toy industry has maintained rapid growth in recent years with the number of toy production enterprises increasing. China now has more than 8,000 toy production

enterprises, of which over 1,000 are considered large. They collectively employ more than 3.5 million people, producing more than 30,000 kinds of toys, which are sold to over 100 countries.

But the industry is now facing a bottleneck in development, lacking independent capabilities in the design and development of new toy products, and famous brands. The toy products are still mainly cuddly toys, and toys with wood as the main raw material. Furthermore, 70% of the toys made in China are processed with imported materials or according to samples supplied by clients.
