Iran eyes China's auto expertise

BEIJING - Iranian ambassador to Beijing, Javad Mansouri, on Saturday expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with Chinese officials in the field of automobile production. Mansouri was speaking to foreign reporters at Iran Khodro's pavilion at the Ninth China International Auto Exhibition.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to boost industrial cooperation with China, particularly in the auto manufacturing industry," he said. Noting the deep-rooted ties between Tehran

and Beijing and their vast experience in the car manufacturing business, he said that "auto manufacturers of Iran and China, with their considerable experience, can pave the way for expansion of mutual relations through exchange of expertise".

The ambassador also expressed Iran's readiness to hold an exhibition of Chinese cars in Tehran and pave the way for participation of Chinese car producers in Iran's auto manufacturing sector.

He praised Iran Khodro's efforts to design and produce a national car, Samand, and hoped it would reach greater heights of achievement by attending international auto exhibitions.

Meanwhile, the managing director of Iran Khodro Industrial Group, Manouchehr Manteqi, said that the credit of designing and producing the national car (Samand) belonged to officials of Iran's auto manufacturing industry.

"Samand, which is currently on display at the Beijing exhibition, is an outcome of the wisdom and capability of the Iranian nation in the field of car production," he said. He hoped Iran and China would be able to boost their bilateral cooperation in the auto manufacturing industry.

The exhibition opened in Beijing on Saturday and runs until November 27.
