HANOI - Another step was
taken to advance the Thanh Tri Bridge project last week,
as the Japanese firm ObayAshi-Sumitomo signed an
agreement that will see them take on the first phase of
the building process.
The signing ceremony,
which took place in Hanoi, saw officials from the
Ministry of Transport's Thang Long Project Management
Board seal the VND1.4 trillion (US$93 million) deal with
officials from the Japanese partner firm.
Work
on the project will begin by the end of next month, and
it is expected that 46 percent of the contract value
will be taken on by Vietnamese sub-contractors.
It is hoped that the 48 month-long project will
help reduce traffic jams in the region, and increase
economic links between Hanoi and neighbouring provinces.
The Thanh Tri Bridge will cross the Hong (Red)
River, and will measure 3 kilometers in length and 33.1
meters in width. It has been designed by the Japanese
International Cooperation Agency.
