NEW DELHI - In a bid to
further boost India's exports in the equestrian
equipment market, about 90 Indian companies will take
part in the biggest trade fair for horse riding products
SPOGA 2003 in Germany starting on August 31.
India is one of the largest producers of
saddlery and harness goods in the world. The country now
holds more than a 25 percent market share in the German
equestrian equipment market and about an 8 percent in
the global market, Indo-German Export Promotion (IGEP)
project director, D Kebschull said.
To highlight
the "Made in India" brand, the IGEP has organized a
joint participation of five prominent exporters at the
same pavilion in the exhibition, Kebschull said.
Indian companies participating in the four-day
event in Cologne will also present a comprehensive
product range extending from riding breeches to gloves,
from polo shirts to cotton jerseys and from saddle to
the cleaning box, Kebschull said.
India's
exports in the sector showed a growth rate of 20 percent
in the year 2002-03 to register a figure of $42 million,
he said, adding the country's saddlery industry has over
200 units in the organized sector, with Kanpur being the
main hub.
India is the most important supplier
of saddles and equestrian equipment to Germany, he said,
adding that 16 percent of the country's exports in the
sector go to Germany and the trade value stood at $6.92
million.
Besides Germany, other major importers
of equestrian products from India are the US, the UK,
France, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, New Zealand
and the Scandinavian countries.
