BANGALORE - Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS) says that Indian information
technology (IT) professionals are losing their
"appetite" to work overseas, as there are more
opportunities and money available at home.
"The
war for talent is here. People are realizing the
benefits of working in India and in general, the
appetite of Indian IT professionals to actually work
overseas is clearly not there as before," TCS vice
president and head of global operations, Phiroze
Vandrevala, told reporters here Monday during a road
show for the TCS initial public offering (IPO), which
opens on July 29.
"They are playing our game. My
global competitors are saying that they will use some
delivery from India," he said, stating that top global
IT firms were adding the "offshoring to India" component
to win customers.
Vandrevala said the recent
outcry against IT outsourcing to India had created more
awareness and in value terms, the industry would have
needed to spend over US$100 million in advertising to
get the same coverage in the American press.
"The number of customer visits taking place is
more now than ever. The number of companies in the
Fortune 500 to 1000 visiting has increased and they
[wonder] whether they have missed something if they have
not outsourced to India," he said.
