India to build gas pipeline

KERALA - India will push ahead with the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project, and has already completed preliminary discussions on the implementation of the project, India's Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said.

"India and Iran enjoy traditionally friendly relations. We intend to further strengthen and expand our multi-faceted ties," said

Ahamed who is in Kerala to support the United Democratic Front's candidate for assembly polls.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Iran's nuclear capacity, Ahamed said India maintained its stance that the issue should be resolved in a transparent manner through dialogue.

"India has consistently stated that all sides must work to find a diplomatic solution and that confrontation should be avoided at all costs," he said.
